ENGLISH

This half-term we will be securing our use of direct speech and using a variety of sentence structures in fiction and non-fiction writing. We will explore the use of figurative language in narratives and use descriptive language to develop the time, place and atmosphere of a setting. In addition, we will be learning how to use a variety of verb tenses correctly and appropriately.

READING

In reading, we will continue to embed children’s retrieval and inference skills by exploring a range of fiction and non-fiction texts based on on our project. We will also be making predictions about how different characters might behave in different settings and looking at the different features and layouts of texts.

Maths

We will be continuing to develop our understanding of fractions as we also add and subtract them. Following on from this, we will also be moving onto working with decimals. We strongly encourage the children to use Times Tables Rock Stars as much as possible to improve their instant recall of the times tables.

PE

Physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development. Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others.
