OUR TOPIC IS: They Came To These Shores part 1

The children are historians as they look at early civilisation in Britain during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. They will think about the kinds of artefacts left behind as evidence of these periods in history and the reliability of sources of knowledge. They will be focusing on the idea of invaders and settlers and the effects they had on the native population of Britain.

OUR TOPIC IS: They Came To These Shores part 2

This history topic follows on from last term where we looked at the earliest invaders and settlers in British History. During this term we study the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We discover how historians use the evidence around them to determine what happened in the distant past. We become history detectives as we look at the artefacts left behind by these civilisations and the evidence of their lifestyles that are still around us today.

OUR TOPIC IS: Forces

In this science topic we will be looking at forces and whether they are pushes, pulls, contact or non-contact forces.  We then continue to study magnetism and, as part of our Design Technology, we marry these two together and the children create a magnetic game.

OUR TOPIC IS: Creating A Buzz

We will be studying the different parts and functions of flowering plants. As part of this we will be looking at the important role that pollinators have to play in the life-cycle of plants.

Our virtual school remains open so you can view learning from last year – you can see all of the previous lessons for all of the year groups. The materials found on the virtual school pages may be used by any child for additional learning if pupils are keen to extend their learning at home, or as extra support. If pupils are unable to attend school due to prolonged illness or isolation, please arrange to talk to us and we will direct you to relevant virtual learning.

They will be using all of the skills they have learned so far this year in a piece which will show paragraphs, compound and complex sentences, the use of expanded noun phrases and adverbials to help organise their final piece.

READING

Reading will focus on the comprehension of texts based around our topic. The aim is to get the children to read with fluency and with expression to show they understand the text they are reading. There are whole class reading sessions and opportunities for the children to read independently.

Maths

Maths this term focuses on shape – the introduction of parallel and perpendicular lines, angles and properties of shape and perimeter.
