OUR TOPIC Happily Ever After.

In our ‘Happily Ever After’ project, we will be exploring various fairy tales through story maps, drama and oral story telling. We will explore themes, characters and similarities between different stories and even make our own story puppets. To end this project, the children will perform a class play with a fairy tale theme.

During this half term the children will be learning about the structure of animals and their nutrition.

During this half term the children are going to be learning about a historical event in British History, ‘The Great Fire of London’. We will be looking at what London was like 400 years ago and use a timeline to record the events in order.

We Love Shard End

During this half term the children are going to be learning about their local area, Shard End. We will be looking at how it has changed over time and make comparisons with modern day Shard End to the past. We will be going on an exciting walk around the local area, visiting different places along the way.

During this half term we will be learning about the 4 different countries that make up the United Kingdom as well as their capital cities.

Green Fingers

During this topic the children will be learning about growing plants. They will learn the structure of a plant using the correct scientific vocabulary and we will be growing our own plants.

Our virtual school remains open so you can view learning from last year – you can see all of the previous lessons for all of the year groups. The materials found on the virtual school pages may be used by any child for additional learning if pupils are keen to extend their learning at home, or as extra support. If pupils are unable to attend school due to prolonged illness or isolation, please arrange to talk to us and we will direct you to relevant virtual learning.

OUR TOPIC HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

ENGLISH

During this half term we will be consolidating all of our learning from this year. The focus will be to ensure that the children can use capital letters and full stops accurately, as well as exclamation and question marks.

READING

During our whole class read lessons we will be looking at a range of texts linked to our topic such as ‘Grandpa’s Garden’, ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and ‘The Life Cycle of an Oak Tree’.

Maths

During our maths lessons we will be securing our knowledge of numbers to 100. On top of this we will be recapping 2D and 3D shapes as well as ensuring the children are confident using the four mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, division and mathematical).

PE

Physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development. Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others.

CLASS 1S

1S will be doing PE on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please could you ensure that you child has their PE kit with them on these days. It would be extremely useful if children could bring in a pair of gym pumps and a pair of trainers. During the cold weather, please provide warm clothing for lessons outside.

Learning diaries and
keeping in touch

You will be expected to record reading in your child’s diary. This is a fantastic resource for the children to use, but also key for parent and teacher communication. Please read with your child, at least 3 times per week and record this in their diary with further comments.
